Goulds Fire Station

The new Goulds Fire Station is being developed as resilient public infrastructure for the growing community of Goulds in St. John’s. Replacing a volunteer fire hall that served the area for 43 years, the 13,000-square-foot facility will support full-time emergency operations while providing durable, efficient spaces for firefighters, equipment, and community outreach.

Targeting Passive House certification, the project is intended to become the first certified Passive House Canada building in Newfoundland and Labrador and the first Canadian fire station certified in a cold climate. GlasCurtain’s Thermaframe 9 PH fibreglass-framed curtain wall system supports this goal by reducing heat loss through the frame, maintaining warmer interior surface temperatures, and helping manage condensation risk in demanding coastal winter conditions.

Designed by Stantec, the station demonstrates how high-performance envelope systems can support both operational resilience and long-term energy efficiency in essential civic infrastructure.
