Project
Kehewin K-12 School
Completed in 2021, the Kehewin K-12 School is a new primary and secondary school located on the Kehewin Cree Nation of Alberta. Reimagine Architects (formerly Manasc Isaac) designed this project with the goal of bridging the gap between the Nation’s existing elementary school and junior-senior high schools. This new facility also merges cultural and historical awareness with modern teaching practices, and in order to achieve this, it has many unique properties including “learning villages” that revolve around Cree Teaching Classrooms. One of the stated design goals was to bring the school as close as possible to Net-Zero standards, which our fibreglass-framed curtain wall systems contributed towards. With an excellent building envelope, a more modest HVAC system could also be specified, which not only reduces operational and maintenance costs but also improves resiliency for this project on reserve.
