Project

Whitehorse General Hospital – Fireweed Mental Health Unit

The Fireweed Mental Health Unit at Whitehorse General Hospital is GlasCurtain’s first completed healthcare project and one of the highest thermally performing healthcare facilities in the Canadian Territories.

Delivered in collaboration with Thinkspace Architecture and Northern Front Studio for Yukon Hospital Corporation, the project involved the construction and renovation of approximately 12,380 sq ft (1,150 sq m) of programmed space above the existing emergency department. The facility includes a 12-bed secure medical unit and outdoor program space supporting mental wellness care in the Whitehorse region.

The building envelope features GlasCurtain’s Thermaframe 7 fibreglass-framed curtain wall system paired with Vision Control® insulated glass and integrated blind units. This assembly helps manage condensation, reduce long-term maintenance, and maintain stable interior surface temperatures in an environment defined by high interior humidity and winter temperatures reaching –55 °C (–67 °F).

The result is a durable, high-performance envelope that supports occupant comfort, operational reliability, and long-term building performance in one of Canada’s most demanding climates.
