What Expansion?
September 17, 2014
GlasCurtain‘s fiberglass composite material certainly has energy efficiency advantages over aluminum curtain wall systems, but what about expansion and contraction? It’s simple: fibreglass composite expands and contracts less than aluminum. How much less?
Fiberglass composite (FRP): 9.0 x 10-6 m/m-K
Aluminum: 23 x 10-6 m/m-K
Glass: 8.7 x 10-6 m/m-K
As these Thermal Coefficients of Expansion demonstrate, less than half as much. In addition, GlasCurtain curtain wall frames expand and contract at essentially the same rate as the glazing.
What does this mean for your next project?
It means that not only are you saving 5-10% on energy costs, but by specifying GlasCurtain, you’re:
1. Reducing condensation potential,
2. Reducing window seal stress,
3. Reducing stress on your HVAC system, and
4. Eliminating framing corrosion.
All of which reduce ongoing maintenance costs.
Say goodbye, au revoir, hasta luego, and Auf Wiedersehen to this:
Pretty cool for a product made in Western Canada, eh?
